Access through the TYMNETnetwork into the CompuServeService incurs a communicationssurcharge. The rates can befound on Page CIS-4. TYMNET isa communication network providedby TYMNET Inc. and is availableby a local phone call from manylocations within the UnitedStates, Puerto Rico and Canada(through DataPac).
1. DIAL THE TYMNET NETWORK PHONENUMBER
(Surcharges will apply.) Listen forthe continuous, high-pitched tone. Redial if you do not hear this tone.
2. CONNECT COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENTWITH TELEPHONE AND TERMINAL/MICROCOMPUTER
If using an acoustic coupler, properlyposition the telephone handset in thecoupler. If using a modem, connectaccording to your modem's instructions.If using a microcomputer, connect yourcommunications equipment and execute theterminal emulator program.
3. ENTER TERMINAL IDENTIFIER
TYMNET will cause the prompt PLEASETYPE YOUR TERMINAL IDENTIFIER to displayon your screen. If you are logging onat any other speed than 300 baud, thismessage will be garbled. Type in theletter A. DO NOT follow your entry bypressing the <ENTER> key. For example:

4. ENTER USER NAME
TYMNET will next prompt you withPLEASE LOG IN. Enter one of thefollowing user names:
CIS02,CIS03,CIS04,CPS01
followed by pressing the <ENTER> key. If you make a mistake entering the username, press the ESCAPE key and reenterthe
user name. An example of typing in thedaytime host name is as follows:
PLEASE LOG IN: CPS01 <ENTER>
Note: If you are using a half duplexterminal, enter a ^H (by pressing downand holding the CONTROL key whilesimultaneously pressing the H key), andthen type in the user name.
5. ENTER USER ID NUMBER
When you receive the USER ID prompt,respond by typing in your User ID numberand pressing the <ENTER> key. Forexample:

6. ENTER YOUR PASSWORD
You will be prompted for your
password. Type it in exactly or youwill receive an error message and beasked to reenter. Press the <ENTER> keyafter typing in your password. Forexample:

3. PRESS THE <ENTER> KEY TWICE
Telenet will announce itself and willdisplay the terminal port address. Note: If you are logging on at halfduplex, press the <ENTER> key, then thesemicolon key (;) and then the <ENTER>key again.
4. ENTER TERMINAL MODEL
Telenet will cause the prompt TERMINAL= to be displayed on
your terminal. Type in the response D1followed by pressing the <ENTER> key. For example:

5. ENTER NETWORK ADDRESS
Telenet will next prompt you with the@ symbol. Type in one of the followingcodes and press the <ENTER> key.

6. ENTER USER ID NUMBER

3. ENTER SERVICE REQUEST SIGNAL
Enter the appropriate service requestsignal so DataPac will know what baudrate you are using. You do this byentering one period (.) for 300 baud ortwo periods (..) for 1200 baud followedby pressing the <ENTER> key. Theseperiods will NOT print out as you enterthem.
DataPac will display a message on yourscreen similar to --DataPac: 9999 9999-- where the numbers indicate the portaddress. DataPac now awaits your nextentry.
4. ENTER CALL REQUEST
Indicate that you want to connect intoTYMNET or Telenet once your connectionreaches the
United States (where the CompuServeService is located). Enter one of thefollowing request codes and press the<ENTER> key. The code will NOT printout as you enter it.

5. RESPOND TO NEXT PROMPT
If DataPac prompts you with USER NAME,respond by entering one of the followinguser names
followed by pressing the <ENTER> key. For example: CIS02, CIS03, CIS04, CPS01 Forexample, to log in during the daytimehours you type in: PLEASE LOG IN: CPS01 <ENTER> Note: If you are using a half duplex terminal,enter a ^H (by pressing down and holdingthe CONTROL key while simultaneouslypressing the H key) - then type the username.
If you did not receive USER NAME, youwill recieve the USER ID prompt. Proceed to the next step.

of the incoming terminal. That entry is called a service request signal.
For 110 baud terminals, enter...<cr> (period,period,period, carriage return)
For 300 baud terminals, enter .<cr> (period, carriage return)
For 1200 baud terminals, enter ..<cr> (period,period carriage return)
3. DataPac responds by displaying the DataPac herald, which includes the DataPac dial port address. It then waits for you to enter the next line.
